Jan-FLU-ary

January hasn't been overly exciting in this house. We've been doing the minimum, basic stuff that needs doing. I came down with the dreaded flu on January 1st and it kicked my butt. The flu itself took about 5-6 days to run it's course. But then it turned into a head cold. And it's effects are still lingering and we're heading towards the end of the month. Lack of energy and taste is what I struggle with most. And a cough. Unfortunately, Max came down with round two of the flu just before school began (in the new year) so between the two of us, we've been hit hard. We spent quite a few quiet quiet days together...when we weren't napping on the couch, we played some games and worked on a puzzle. This puzzle is still out by the way...it's going to take us forever to finish at the rate we're going...

We love colouring together. Max came up with the colour combo for this one...and we ended up using/finishing off quite a few markers before it was finished.

This next little game was a stocking stuffer that came in quite handy...it's all about balancing objects and is quite addicting once you start. The best part is you can play with two people or you can play by yourself.

I have been wanting to put together a photo wall for forever. But I'm scared...that it will look dumb and I won't be able to translate the vision I have in my head to reality. So I have lived with a big blank wall for 3 years. I came across this photo frame collage (which is very very big) a while ago and I decided to use birthday money (thanks LeeAnne!) towards it and go with this instead of a collection of random photo frames (and multiple nail holes in the wall). The photos are just taped on top of the frame for now... I'm waiting for the actual awesome quality prints (via mail) to frame. This took a chunk of time to figure out...it was a good indoor winter activity when you're not feeling very well.

This past Friday was a PD Day. One of Max's little friends on his hockey team last year wondered if he'd like to go to the Warrior Hockey camp with him for the entire day - put on by the U of Waterloo Men's Hockey. They had a fantastic day together. Saturday afternoon, Max was watching the Warrior Hockey game on TV and was all excited when he saw players that he recognized who had been helping on the ice at the camp.

Huskie Donuts. It's that time of year.
You gotta love when you can go through the drive thru at the New Hamburg Tim Hortons and order a Huskie Donut. For some reason, my little hockey player thinks it tastes way better than any other donuts because of the sprinkles - Huskie Colours!

We are smack dab in the middle of hockey playoffs already. Interestingly enough the hockey schedule has slowed down considerably now compared to the 4 months leading up to Christmas. Feels a little strange to have open weekends and weekday nights. Max's piano teacher is on a missions trip for most of January as well so we're getting a nice little winter break all around. :)
