It's beginning to look a lot like....camping!

Now THIS is what I'm talkin' about...
This past Saturday was an unexpected gift. First of all, all three of us were at home for the day. Yes! And the weather was warm(ish) and sunny. Not exactly typical for the middle of November in Ontario. Double Yes! So we did what half the neighbourhood was also doing...put up the outdoor Christmas lights. :) And then over the lunch hour, dragged out our firepit and had a weiner and marshmallow roast with some wonderful friends. Complete with whipped cream and sprinkled hot chocolate and festive Christmas napkins!

(MMmmmmm! Best ginger cookies ever! Gotta say, they give Starbucks a run for their money...)

(This is referred to as "TEXTBOOK" by my boys!)

Seriously. What can be better than sipping hot chocolate outdoors by the fire in the middle of November? With nary a snowflake in sight! That's pretty much perfection in my books. :)

We've had an extremely busy schedule this fall. The weeks just blend into each other, one after the other. So I'm very grateful when unexpected moments like this happen.

This is what the past week looked like. Pretty much typical with a few changes here and there. Someday I'm sure I will look back at this and say "Oh my. Remember when...."

Monday - dryland practice at the school from 6:00-8:00pm.
Tuesday morning - hockey practice, leave the house at 6:00am.
Tuesday night - piano lessons at 5:00pm.
Wednesday night - hockey practice in Milverton 7:00 - 8:00pm.
Thursday night - Vanessa took Max indoor mini-golfing and out for dinner (his belated birthday present.) The plan was for Keith and me to go out on a date....but I was tired and Keith got home late and he was hardly home before Max and Vanessa were back already. Isn't that how it goes?
Friday night - hockey game in Arthur. Keith had a late meeting and then got stuck in traffic so we both drove and met up at the Arthur arena. (We lost badly. The bright note - Max scored our only goal!) Stopped in at my parents on the way home for a quick visit.
Saturday - putting up lights and doing outdoor work, the awesome bonfire and in the evening Gary & Leanne and kids came for dinner. And keeping with the outdoor theme...we bbq'd dinner - sausage on a bun and salads. Yum!
Sunday - We went to church. Then family photos with Hilary at RIM Park. Next dinner at my parents with almost the whole entire family. Followed by a hockey game in New Hamburg against Erin. (Our Huskies won! Final score 5-4. Max scored one goal and got an assist.) Walked in the door after 6:00pm and Keith promptly grabbed his suitcase and winter jacket and headed out to the airport to catch his flight up to Fort McMurray for the week.
Throw in school, homework, a dentist appt and massage appt and strongstart and a whole bunch of errands and that was our week.

So, this little campfire was just what we all needed. A mini-vacation. We all were in the mood to go camping by the time it was over. We might be waiting a while.  ;)
